34 A t L A n t i c A soaking in stylea Drawing on a tradition hailing back to the Viking era, the Mývatn Nature Baths take advantage of the abun- dance of geothermal waters that run straight from a nearby bore hole of the National Power Company. The tastefully designed spa opened its doors in 2004 and has been growing in popularity ever since. Begin your visit with a relaxing dip amidst clouds of steam rising up from a fissure deep in the Earth’s surface, and then enjoy a cozy soak in a 5,000 square meter pool of warm geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2,500 meters. Containing a unique blend of min- erals, silicates and geothermal microorganisms, the warm and soothing waters are both therapeutic and rejuvenating. Facilities include three natural steam baths as well as hot tubs, showers and a relaxation area. The spa is open all year round and we recommend coming in winter as soaking in the warm water while gazing at the northern lights makes for an unforgettable experience. After lunch at the café, pick up some of their great skin cream and then continue to explore the wonders of Northeast Iceland. jardbodin.is Mývatn natuRe BathS
