SuDDen elevation
Ólöf arnalds
one little indian
released by one little Indian, Sudden
elevation is the third studio album by Ólöf
arnalds, and her first that’s entirely in
english. Ólöf is a great songwriter and her
voice “can silence a room,” as the new york
times put it. Ólöf’s floating voice harmonizes
with the harmonies that are so simple and
complex at the same time. Inspired by folk
music, the album’s strongest cut is the
opener ‘German Fields.’ Sudden elevation
is an album which further elevates Ólöf’s
indie folk rock career and it looks as if she
will reach new heights still, even after having
been named one of Q magazine’s ‘Most
exciting people in Music’ in 2010. PS

Design store Kirsuberjatréð, run by 11 artists
and designers, celebrated its 20th anniversary in
late april. the former general store was housed
in the 130-year-old building on Vesturgata
4, downtown reykjavík, for 105 years until
daily goods were exchanged for arts, crafts
and design in 2003 when a group of Icelandic
women opened Kirsuberjatréð on the premises.
Wisely they did not change the interior, which
now celebrates its 90th anniversary. the arts
and the crafts, though, are brand new. PS
