Iceland review - 2014, Side 27
ICELAND REVIEW 25 has been phenomenal. Many factors have contributed to her progressing so quickly from being a fine icelandic athlete at the age of 14 and to winning a world championship title and ranking high on the global list of the world’s best adult ath- letes a mere three years later.” According to Gunnar páll, Aníta loves to train and compete and has been that way from an early age. “Training has always come first with her and she is always happy to attend practice. nowadays, she mainly trains with the boys. They run at the speed of the world’s best female runners and she likes noth- ing more than racing against them during practice. Aníta is strong-willed and thrives in a competitive environment. She always welcomes a challenge and enjoys competing with the world’s best runners in international tournaments.” A big factor in Aníta’s success is her cheerful disposition and a positive outlook on life. “She has a great sense of humor, which manifests itself in a light-hearted atmosphere in the training group. This is very important as the pressure increases with every passing year.” The future is certainly bright for iceland’s beloved sports star who, despite her prodigious success at such an early age, manages to keep both feet firmly on the ground. * Sport Stockholm, august 22, 2013. aníta Hinriksdóttir (in white and blue) takes part in her first iaaf diamond league meeting.
