For centuries, the farmers in Landsveit
County have rounded up their sheep in the
Landmannalaugar area each September. For three
and a half months they roam free between small
glaciers, blue mountains, even bluer lakes, red
hills and yellow slopes, with green grass to feed
on and even greener moss to look at. The area
is a feast for the eye. Even more striking in the
first September snow. And here in Jökulgil, the
15-kilometer-long canyon, from Landmannalaugar
to Torfajökull and Kaldaklofsjökull glaciers, the air is
clearer and the colors stronger: it is a world
of its own.This is the kingdom of colors.
