8 ICELAND REVIEW eXhiBitioNS Don’t Miss RÓ RÓ, the summer exhibition at Skaftfell Center for visual art in Seyðisfjörður, the east Fjords. and you have time, as the exhibition will be open until october 5. RÓ RÓ presents a group of local and international visual artists who have a close relationship with the town of Seyðisfjörður with its 670 inhabitants. Some of the artists live in the town permanently, others own houses or are regular visitors. ráðhildur ingadóttir, who serves as an honorary artistic director at Skaftfell (2013-2014), curates the exhibition. With this project, ráðhildur wants to direct attention to the vigor- ous visual art scene in Seyðisfjörður. Don’t Miss a visit to the earthquake Center (Skjálftasetrið) in Kópasker in Öxarfjörður, northeast iceland. Here you can see close up what happened when the big earthquake hit the village on January 13, 1976, and 90 out of the 130 inhabitants had to be rescued in an arctic blizzard at nighttime. Don’t Miss Ósvör, the maritime museum in Bolungarvík in the West Fjords. The museum contains a double 19th century fishing base, salting hut, fish drying area and drying hut. The cura- tor greets visitors wearing a leather suit that is similar to the one icelandic sailors wore at that time and describes what there is to see, like the rowboat Ölver. Don’t Miss The brand new rock 'n' roll Museum of iceland, in Kefla- vík, reykjanesbær, next-door to iceland’s main international airport. Here you meet Björk, Sigur rós and Hljómar, the first real rock/pop band from iceland, and Keflavík, where icelandic pop was born. Here you are introduced to the his- tory of our popular music and hear sound bites of the best songs from the rock called iceland. * Don’T MiSS… Don’t dare drive past these exhibitions, take your time to enjoy them.
