THE BREIÐDALSSETUR CENTER
GEOLOGY – LINGUISTICS – HISTORY
The Breiðdalssetur Center (occasionally called The Walker Center, after volcanologist
George P.L. Walker), is housed in the oldest building in the East Iceland village
of Breiðdalsvík built in 1906. The center facilitates earth science and literary research
focused on the region, as well as exhibitions on its geology, linguistics and local history.
Current exhibitions cover the history of science and the mineral Iceland spar, the
writer and linguist Stefán Einarsson from Breiðdalur valley, the geology and min-
erals of the East Fjords and the aforementioned world-famous British volcanologist
George P.L. Walker.
Open daily May 20 - September 15, 11 am - 6 pm
and by appointment.
Entrance fee: ISK 500, free for children under 16

CAFÉ NESBÆR · NESKAUPSSTAÐUR
Opening in 1998, Café Nesbær is located in a historic building from 1907 in
the heart of Neskaupstaður in the East Fjords. A one-stop-shop, in addition to
a diverse menu and wine list, the café offers free Wi-Fi and carries handicrafts,
including lopapeysa woolen sweaters, yarn, gift items and flowers.
