can’t use go to my friend who makes jewellery."This
season, she will work on more than 100 skins. However,
Icelandic skins from hunted animals are much more
expensive than their Scandinavian counterparts from
reindeer farms. Because they’re harder to sell, the
lion’s share of Icelandic reindeer hides are thrown

Stranger in your own land
Back in the city, every now and then, the mind wanders
back to the wilderness. The moment we first saw the

It’s odd to see something in your own land first-hand
which seems outlandish, cartoonish even. Even though
they’ve called Iceland home for 232 years, reindeer are
essentially a foreign body in Iceland, and for the two

the country, they’re an anomaly, something you might
only see a handful of times in your life. For folks in
East Iceland, however, reindeer are not only a part of
your world - for one and a half months in late summer,
they’re everything.
