The Icelandic National
League Dinner
The Icelandic National League con-
vention held Friday, January 25 and
Saturday, January 26, was climaxed
by a dinner held at the Fort Garry
Hotel. Honored guests were His Excel-
lency Haraldur Kroyer, Ambassador
of Iceland to the United States and
Canada, and his wife fru Unni Kroyer.
His Excellency wa.s the guest speaker
of the evening. He outlined the pro-
gress made by Iceland in the past few
years and mentioned appreciatively
the assistance the Canadian people
gave to the Westman Islands at the
time of the violent volcanic eruptions
on the main island in 1973. Consul-
General Grettir L. Johannson intro-
duced the speaker.
Mrs. Joy Antenbring, accompanied
by Miss Snjolaug Sigurdson, sang two
operatic solos, and Melvin Martin, of
Brandon, Manitoba, accompanied by
his mother, Mrs. Martin, rendered
violin solos.
Three honorary memberships in the
League were presented to: His Excel-
lency Haraldur Kroyer, Mrs. Kristin
R. Johnson, and Mr. K. W. Johann-
son. Life memberships were presented
to: Miss Snjolaug Sigurdson, Mrs.
Elma Gislason, and Mrs. Lara Ter-
geson, president of the Gimli Chapter
of the National League.

The winner of the open 10 mile Bi-
cycle race at the Icelandic Festival at
Gimli, August, 197S, was Grant Bjorn-
son of Winnipeg, not Bjarnason.
