hrough the photos on the cover of the 1994 Icelandic Heritage Calendar,
bonds were renewed between the families of two sisters separated in 1879.
SigriSur, the sister in white, emigrated at age six and grew up in 'New
Iceland', while FriSrika, shown in Icelandic dress (inset), remained in Iceland. Once the
first generation died, contact was eventually lost. Receiving the 1994 calendar as a gift,
Hulda Johannesdottir of Laugaland, Iceland recognized a distant blood connection
and contacted Anna Forsteinsdottir of Reykjavik, granddaughter of Fridrika. The names
and addresses of cousins in Canada and Iceland have now been exchanged.
