From Solskin Memoirs:
The first Solskin meeting was held at the
home of Gudrun Tipping, November 1,
1917.
In 1918 the Solskin Charter was formed
under bylaws set up by Mary K. Anderson,
Anna Harvey and Emily Thorson. These
Charter Bylaws, which have been Solskin’s
constitutional guidelines since 1918, are
listed below in the English version and the
Icelandic version.

(Johnson) Pearson, Mrs. Elin Johannson,
Mrs. Ingibjorg Thorson, Mrs. Lily

Thorbjorg Anderson, Anna Gudjohnsen,
Jonina (Ena) Jackson, Mrs. R. Eirikson,
Mrs. Kristine (Stina) Sanders, Mrs.

Charter rules for Solskin:
The Solskin Charter was formed in
1918, and the rules were as follows:
1. The name of the club is Solskin.
2. The objective of Solskin is to be an
active and charitable club, as well as to fos-
ter Icelandic Social Life.
3. The Executive shall consist of 5
women — President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Vice-President, and Treasurer.
4. The Executive shall have authority to
hold special sessions on matters relating to
Solskin.
5. The Executive shall be elected by vot-
ing.
6. The Executive shall be elected for one
year, with Annual Meetings to be held in
November.
7. Meetings shall be held the last
Thursday in each month, at 8:00 p.m.
8. Membership fee shall be 50 cents, to
be paid when joining, then annually at the
Annual meeting.
9. It shall be the duty of each member to
attend meetings regularly, and to partici-
pate in all club activities.
10. The laws of this Charter shall not be
changed, except by means of voting, with a
2/3 majority. At a meeting in 1919 a
motion was passed by the Charter that laws
be read to every new member when joining
Solskin.
Later, this law was amended to read that
the Charter be read once every year, at the
February meetings.
