Many of them had been telling stories for so long
that they were very entertaining to listen to.
Just the atmosphere in the camp was
unbelievable. Great camaraderie was evident and,
of course, a few practical jokes and stunts here and
there. There was always something cooking over
the fire – maybe not always edible but, if it was, we
would feast. Kjötsúpa (meat soup) and flatbread was
the best. They even had homemade jam to go on
the flatbread. We treated them to some harðfiskur.
Some were crazy about it; others, not that much.
The very next day it was our turn to
dress up in costume and help in the Viking
encampment. We had to hide our modern
things like cameras, phones, and even glasses.
