rofustappa, kæfa, salmon, and
much more. Kljeinur and other
Icelandic sweets were served with
coffee. Preparations for the dinner
were made by Didda Wilson and
her assistants.
The program, emceed by Sig
Johnson, opened with the Fjallkona,
Anne Marie Chester, being escorted
to the platform by Frank Parris.
Tani Bjornson led the audience in
the singing of the anthems and, later
in the program, in community sing-
ing, accompanied by Ann Palmason.
The Fjallkona gave a brief address
and recited Thorsteinn Erlingsson's
poem "Nu blika við sólarlag”,
followed by Jakobina Johnson's
English translation. She was
presented with a bouquet of
flowers. The Male Choir, Vestur-
bræður, sang several selections,
after whjch our consul, Jon Marvin
Jonsson, gave an entertaining
speech on the election of iceland's
president, Vigdis Finnbogadóttir,
her life and works. A drawing for
prizes followed, winners receiving a
doll dressed in Icelandic costume by
Didda Wilson, and a painting of
Thingvellir by Jon Gudmundsson,
recently arrived from Iceland.
The evening concluded with danc-
ing and socializing until well after
midnight.

The Picnic was held on August 15,
on a beautiful day; the sun shone
high in the sky and the temperature
was in the nineties.
The Silver Shore Resort stands by
Silver Lake, which was truly nam-
ed, for the sun gave it the glow of
freshly polished silver. It looked so
inviting that our youngsters spent
the best part of the day "splishing
and splashing" around in it.
The number of people par-
ticipating in this event has been
growing year by year, and it was
great to see a gathering with ages
ranging from new born to into the
80s, where all enjoyed themselves.
No generation gap here.
We had amongst us visitor's from
Iceland and as far away as Korea.
Some of our fishermen were still
with us and added-a great deal of
fun to our affair. They were proving
their strength in "sjómann" (arm
wrestling) and many tried their luck
against Gudjon Gudjonsson, who
became the victor and a hero of the
day.

for every function.
The festival began at 12:30 p.m.
with a colorful parade coordinated
by Erling Olafson and led by Rick
Wilson. Music was provided by Ac-
cordionist Pat Spaéth. The paraders
joined in, singing in their native
tongues with great gusto.
Rick also led the presentation of
the flags, which were carried by
each of the princesses. Claude
Nelson, (Swedish Male Chorus
member), carried the American
Flag.
Iceland's princess, Lorene Thor-
