LÖGBEE/G. FIMTUDAGINÍs 1. AGÚST, 1935. 5 O N this happy occasion, so near the sixtieth anniversary of the date of the coming of our Icelandic settlers to Manitoba, I wish to extend on behalf of our College a most sincere greeting of good will and congratula- tion. During the pp.st sixty years vast de- velopments have taken place in agri- culture, industry and education, and there have been corresponding changes in the outlook of all Canadians. Al- though the desirability of some of these changes may be questioned, most of them have been in the direction of pro- gress—better living and working con- ditions and a finer sense of communal responsibility. The young people now growing up will know the “brave old days” only by hear- say; but with such a background and with adequate preparation for the future, they should go far toward realiz- ing the full and happy life of which our forefathers dreamed when they landed in this new country.
