Framkvæmdir Sandgræðslu
ríkisins eru miklar í sumar og
víða að unnið, en einna mesta
framkvæmdin er skjólgarða-
gerð á Hólssandi upp með
Jökulsá á Fjöllum að austan,
og er þetta langmesta skjól-
garðagerð sandgræðslunnar
til þessa. Önnur athyglisverð-
asta framkvæmdin er græðsla
Skógasands. — Tíðindamaður
blaðsins átti fyrir skömmu tal
við Pál Sveinsson, sand-
græðslustjóra, um þessar
framkvæmdir.
Hólssandur er eitt stærsta
uppblásturssvæði, sem ógnar
byggð norðan lands. Það sem
ískyggilegast er, að á hverju
ári hefir uppblásturinn færst
norður á bóginn, jafnvel svo
að kílómetrum skiptir sum
árin, og leggur undir sig gróð-
urrík lönd Öxfirðinga. Fyrir
tveim árum hóf sandgræðslan
að reyna að stemma stigu við
þessari eyðileggingu, og 1
sumar er aðalátakið gert.
Langir tlmburgarðar
Á slíku sandsvæði er til-
gangslaust að sá í sandinn an
frekari aðgerða, allt blæs upP
á ný, áður en gróðurinn nær
festu. Eina ráðið er að gora
skjólgarða á sandinum, °S
hefir að því verið unnið síð-
ustu vikur.
Skjólgarðar þessir eru gerð-
ir úr timbri, um það bil hne-
háir, tvö borð fest á staura,
sem reknir eru í sandinn-
Undir neðra borðið eru um
sex þumlungar. Garðar þessir
eru lagðir svolítið á ská við
