Páll Vídalín
bóndi að Árskógi við Riverion, Manitoba.
Þann 13. september s.l. and- eftir erfiði dagsins, lét honum
svo ríkulega í
aðsit að heimili sínu, Árskógi
við Riverton, Man., Páll
Vídalín, um langa hríð bóndi
þar, eftir miklar þjáningar og
langa rúmlegu. Hann var
fæddur í Húnavatnssýslu, 26.
desember 1880. Foreldrar
hans voru Friðrik Davíðsson
og Sigurlaug Jónsdóttir. Með
móður sinni kom hann til
Vesturheims 5 ára að aldri,
en faðir hans var þá látinn.
Þau settust að í Riverton, og
þar átti hann heima lengst
ævi sinnar. Hann bjó þar
með móður sinni, unz hann
kvæntist þann 19. júlí 1910
eftirlifandi ekkju sinni, Frið-
rikku Árnason; bjuggu þau í
Árskógi farsælu búi með sam-
einuðum huga og höndum og
sáu sínum stóra barnahóp vel
borgið. Börnin eru:
Sigurlaug Hólmfríður, gift
Sveini Sveinssyni, búsett í
Winnipeg, Man.
Friðrik kvæntur Helgu
Pálsson, búsettur í Brandon,
Man.
Jóhanna Lovísa, gift Dun-
can Reusscau, búsett að
Hnausa, Man.
Ragnheiður, gift Herbert
Martin, búsett að Gimli, Man.
Lárus, heima hjá foreldrum
sínum og hefir verið þeim
stoð og styrkur síðan að hann
kom heim úr síðasta heims-
stríði.
Petrína Vilborg, Winnipeg,
Man.
Jón Franklin, kvæntur Ósk
Jónasson, búsettur í Riverton,
Man.
D a v í ð Ólafur, kvæntur
Christine Stephens, búsettur
í Vauxhall, Alta.
Páll Haraldur, vinnur utan
heimilisins, ókvæntur. Barna-
börnin eru 17 að tölu.
Vídalíns-hjónin börðust
góðri og sigrandi baráttu með
sína stóru og mannvænlegu
fjölskyldu. Páll var ötull og someness — a sort of a mis.
hagkvæmur bóndi. Styrk og
góð kona stóð honum við hlið
og studdi hann með rósemi
og affarasælli festu, er gerði
heimili þeirra indælt á hinni
löngu samfylgd þeirra, jafnt
á björtum sem dimmum dög-
um. Börnin þeirra, mörg og
mannvænleg, eru vel gefin að
skapgerð og hæfileikum og
vel stillt, og unnu heimilinu
í hag af mikilli tryggð meðan
þau dvöldu þar, og sum þeirra
hafa vart að heiman farið,
nema þá á vettvangi skyldu-
unnar. í hinum langa sjúk-
dómi, er Páll leið þurfti hann
mikillar umönnunar við, er
eiginkona hans, þá langþreytt,
té. Börn hans
og kærleiksríkir vinir gerðu
einnig sitt ítrasta af mikilli
elsku og þolinmæði til að
hlynna að honum; einnig
þjónaði þar hina síðustu 5
mánuði, er Páll lifði, Mr. J. K.
Johnson, Hecla, af sinni al-
kunnu nærfærni og lipurð, og
kann fjölskyldan hounm inni-
legustu þakkir fyrir.
Með Páli Vídalín er til
hinztu hvíldar genginn góður
og sannur Islendingur, þreytt-
ur eftir margþætt erfiði dags-
ins, vel og dyggilega af hendi
leyst í þágu fjölskyldu sinnar
og samtíðar. Minnist ég með
miklu þakklæti hans og ást-
vina hans fyrir alla dyggð og
trúmennsku mér auðsýnda á
þjónustuárum mínum í presta
kalli Norður Nýja-lslands.
Guð blessi minningu hans.

Baldwin Guðmundur Vigfússon
Baldwin Gudmundur Vig-
fússon was born in Arborg,
March 27, 1939. He took all
his schooling at the Ardal
School, at Arborg, graduating
from grade XII, in June 1957.
Baldwin was an exceptional
student. His keen intellect
enabled him to master, with
equal proficiency, the prac-
tical subject of mathematics
and science, and the humani-
ties.
Another significant thing
about him which set him
apart as a student, was the
fact that, although he was al-
ways close to the top in
Junior High School, he easily
assumed first rank in the
Senior grades; yet those are
the years during which so
many students slacken in
their work due to other in-
terests. But, it was in the field
of literature that Baldwin
really excelled. It was a joy
to read his response to ques-
tions on poetry. He had the
emotional depth, and the
imagination which are the
essentials for poetic apprecia-
tion.
When a little boy, Baldwin
was very shy, but as he ad-
vanced in his grades he got
over his shyness.His still shy
smile testified to his whole-
chievous smile it was, accom-
panied by a twinkle in his
eye — and he had a delightful
sense of humour!
Baldwin had the capacity
for throwing himself with the
utmost intensity into the task
before him. He could concen-
trate on his lessons, oblivious
of distracting influences
around him. Then he could
turn to things in lighter vein
with equal zest. His sunny
disposition and innate mo-
desty endeared him to all his
companions.
Baldwin would have made
a splendid career in the aca-
demic sphere, but God had

other plans for him. He was
called Home on the morning
of February 2, 1958 on the
Selkirk Highway.
His parents Mr. and Mrs.
Jóhann Vigfússon, his three
brothers, Paul, Einar and
Herman, and his aging grand-
mother Mrs. Jóhanna Vigfús-
son grieve for him, who was
the youngest member of the
family, and for whom they
had such high hopes.
When I heard of the acci-
dent, the following lines came
to my mind:
He Will Never Grow Old
This sudden news has
unnerved us
And we can only weep,
That this life so full of
promise
Should be stilled as if in sleep.
But of course he isn’t sleeping,
His luminous powers of mind
Thus freed from their earthly
bondage
Are glowing and eager to find
The answer to many a
problem
And many a question of right;
And there in the realms of
beauty,
Guided by Heavenly light.
He will grow to a glorious
manhood,
God needed his youth in His
fold,
And now through our tears
this glad thought appears,
Our Baldwin will never
grow old.
