Passport set for Iceland
again in spring-summer '81

NEW YORK — Travellers contem-
plating an Iceland sightseeing trip
next spring or summer can take ad-
vantage of a big, moneysaving
means of transportation within the
Land of Fire and Ice.
Unnur Kendall, Director of the
Icelandic National Tourist Office in
New York, announced that the
country's extremely popular Full
Circle Passport ticket for scheduled
bus service around the Viking coun-
try would be offered again in 1981
at a price of $111. The Full Circle
Passport, designed especially for
vacationers, enables them to travel
some 900 miles around the Ring
Route, the most spectacular scenic
roadway in the country, breaking
their trip as they choose for
stopovers before re-boarding
another bus to continue their trek.
Mrs. Kendall said that the special-
fare ticket is valid from June 1 -
Sept. 15, 1981.
She said that sights along the Ring
Route from Reykjavík, capital of
Iceland, include ages-old lava fields,
waterfalls, mountain lakes,
volcanoes, fjords, and beautiful
countryside towns. The route passes
through Akureyri, Iceland's second
largest city in the verdant north,
along teeming salmon rivers, and
along the edge of Europe's largest
ice cap, Vatnajökull.
Mrs. Kendall also said that Om-
nibus Passport, geared for Iceland
sightseers who wish to mark their
own travel route, would also again
be available in 1981. The Passport
enables purchasers to use any

Two scholarships of $500.00 each
are available. The total amount is
approximately the annual proceeds
from $10,000.00 donated for this
purpose by Emilia Palmason Olson
of Bellingham, Washington.
The recipients must be of good
moral character, Icelandic descent,
college calibre and primarily in
need of help to continue their
studies in high school, college or at
university level. They are asked to
sign a pledge that "somewhere
along the highway of life.'' they will
try to provide comparable help to
another needy student.
