JANÚAR 1983 NÚMBER A Director's Meeting at Selkirk Linda Colette and Haraldur Bessason. Thora Arnason, Einar Arnason and Neil Johannson. Minutes of a meeting of the direc- tors of Logberg-Heimskringla Inc. held at the Driftwood Inn, Selkirk, Manitoba on Thursday, January 13, 1983 at the hour of 7:45 o'clock in the evening. Present B. Neil Johannson, Einar Arnason, Thora Arnason, Jonas Thor, Cecelia Ferguson, Harold Goodmanson, Nor- man Bergman, Linda F. Collette, Adalsteinn F. Kristjansson, Maurice Eyolfson, Diane Kristjansson, Thrainn Kristjansson, Professor Haraldur Bessason (formerly of Skagaf.), all of Winnipeg; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bjornson, Margaret Par- tridge, Atha Thorsteinson, Lilja Dewar, Kristin Stefansson, Esther Erickson, Victor Erickson, Palina Sorlie, Olive Cholacky, Emily Hen- dry, Harold Henrikson, Runar Magnusson, Lauga Thompson, Rosa Jonasson, Sessilja Still, Bernice Helgason, Stefan Helgason, all of Selkirk; Johann S. Sigurdson of Lundar. Mr. A.F. Kristjansson acted as Chairman and Mr. B. Neil Johannson acted as secretary of the meeting. The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. following an excellent dinner organized by the Bruin Chapter of the Icelandic National League. Mr. Krist- jansson thanked Jack Bjornson and the Bruin Chapter for having made the arrangements for the meeting and for being such gracious hosts. The Chairman informed the direc- tors that notice of the meeting had been sent to all the directors and that the required quorum of directors were present. The meeting was then declared to be duly constituted for all purposes. On the motion of Norman Bergman, seconded by Harold Good- manson and passed unanimously, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting of directors of the Company held on October 14, 1982 was dispensed with and the minutes were adopted as if read. The meeting then turned to business arising from the last meeting. Financial statements for the Cor- poration to December 31, 1982 and to January 12, 1983 were circulated to those present. Thrainn Krist- jansson advised the meeting that while as of January 12, 1983, disbursements had exceeded receipts by the sum of $6,833.47, the Cor- poration had not received anticipated grants from the Icelandic Govern- ment, the Canada Iceland Founda- tion and the Icelandic National League totalling approximately $16,500. He further indicated that advertising for the Christmas issue had increased from $3,100 last year to $3,600 this year, which he felt, in view of the current economic climate, to be satisfactory. Einar Arnason questioned whether the grant from the Ieelandic Govern- ment would actually be $8,000. A.F. Kristjansson said that financial statements for the period ending Ju- ly 31, 1982 had been sent to the Government of Iceland in August or September of 1982 and that recently Jonas Thor had called the Icelandic Counsel in New York to follow up the current status of this grant ap- plication. Mr. Kristjansson said that no word had been received from the Government of Iceland on this ques- tion so he was unable to say, if in fact, the grant would be $8,000. Einar Arnason told the meeting that the Icelandic Grant Committee, in a let- ter to him, a copy of which was published in Lögberg-Heimskringla on November 26, 1982, had praised Logberg-Heimskringla as being a Continued on page 2
