Pictures wanted
The Icelandic Cultural Corporation
Inc. (The Gimli Museum) would like
to set up a pictorial display of the
Betel Homes, after their establish-
ment by the Icelandic community for
their senior citizens.
We are particularly interested in
pictures of the Home when it was in
Winnipeg and when it was on Fifth
Avenue in Gimli as well as at its pre-
sent site in Gimli and Selkirk. We
would appreciate pictures of the
barns and animals that were earlier
kept at Gimli.
This display is intended for the
Museum at Gimli as well as the Betel
Home at Selkirk and Gimli.
Any pictures that you may have to
donate or loan should be sent to

Most people are quite happy to
stop working when they reach retir-
ing age, but one worker who should
have been pensioned off last month
at 75, will not go.
Authors want Sakharov
to settle in Iceland
The Icelandic Authors' Society has
urged the government at its Annual
General Meeting to negotiate with
the Soviet authorities to permit dis-
sident Andrei Sakharov and his wife
to emigrate and settle in Iceland.
The members of the society feel
that the friendly business relation-
ship between the two countries
should induce the Kremlin to look
favourably upon the proposal. They
counter Russia’s main objection to
Sakharov's leaving — that his
specialised knowledge in the nuclear
field could be used by their enemies
— by pointing out that Iceland has no
nuclear power or nuclear weapons,
nor any plans to acquire them.
Iceland would therefore have no
ulterior motive in offering the
Sakharovs asylum.
The determined old lady, a cleaner
at the Reykjavík City Hospital, still
comes into work every day and
scrubs the floors, in spite of the fact
that she is no longer on the payroll.
She is prepared to defend her right to
work by any means, including slap-
ping the hospital's Assistant Director
in the face and hitting the cleaners’
supervisor with a broom handle.
Even changing the key to her locker
did not put her off; she simply took
her overall home and reappeared
with it next morning.
Appeals to give up the struggle
from family and union represen-
tatives had no effect, and the hospital
authorities have no idea how to deal
with this resolute worker who
refuses to ''act her age."
