Memories, warm, happy memories arise when I remember Jona and Will Kristjanson. » I met Jona when she was a widow with two tender-aged children depen- dent on her. She impressed me deep- ly as a loving mother, a caring, warm- hearted friend with something good to say about everyone. Jona was a highly trained pianist. It was in the capacity of accompanist I first met Jona through Elmer Nor- dal, that fine bass-baritone. Elmer and I had promised to sing duets at a forthcoming concert. He had sought Jona for our accompanist. Like her personality, her piano touch was soft, rich and warm, never dominating the singer's voice, rather enhancing it, always ready with help where and if help was needed. After rehearsals, coffee and stimulating repartee was always a must in Jona's house. Her love and kindness was reflected in the adoration shown by her children, and in her sincerity to Obituary Sigurd Valdimar Brynjolfson On August 30, 1984 in Langley, B.C. Her marriage to Will Kristjanson was a perfect ''match.” Both were highly intellec- tual, intelligent, deeply-caring peo- ple, and devoted parents. Now, Jona had an ample field on which to lavish her warm-hearted nature. I first met Will during WWII at a dance held in the Good Templars Hall on Sargent Ave., Wpg. It was "ladies choice." Seeing this hand- some man in uniform all alone in the midst of the swirling dancers, taking courage in hand, I threaded my way towards him. "Come Soldier, let's dance," I said as I claimed him for my partner. Gallantly, he bowed and swung me into the waltz. He was a fantastic dancer! Soon I realized the faux pas I had committed calling a CAPTAIN a rnere soldier. It didn't seem to disturb Will one bit. Jona was an ideal companion tc Will, encouraging him in his scholastic endeavors. The Icelandic people have much to be proud of in Will, notably the book The Icelandic People in North America, and much more. Unfortunately, ill health put an end to his endeavors. Jona and Will were a strength to each other when ill health besieged both. We that are left have much to remember them for; Will for public service and scholastic achievements; Jona, the warm-hearted, superb homemaker, who melded two families into one happy unit, Jona, the musician, Jona the comforter of her entire family, her children, step-children, grand- children; I for one will never forget Jona and Will, my sadly-missed friends.
