Rita Mooney celebrated her 90th
birthday last October 31, 1984 by
hosting a smorgasbord at Viking
Motor Hotel in Gimli with 53 guests
present. While in her Vancouver
home she enjoyed hosting small din-
ner parties and here she did it on a
big scale. It was a great day and
showed the rest of us how a Special
Birthday should be celebrated. But
after New Year she fractured a hip.
She underwent surgery twice on her
hip but now, many difficult weeks
later she is well enough to be in a
room of her own again.

We recently published a
photograph of Icelandair's first
female jet-pilot. Many have express-
ed their appreciation and so we
thought we should also give
stewardesses a chance. Above you
see left to right: Ingibjörg Valsdóttir,
Ásdís Olsen and Jónína Sigmarsdót-

Icelandic River Saga
near completion
Mr. Nelson Gerrard of Arborg,
Manitoba recently contacted the of-
fice and stated that his book "Icelan-
dic River Saga” would be published
soon. Mr. Gerrard has spent nu-
merous years in research and has
written a very scholarly work. Mr.
Gerrard is an excellent researcher
and one can therefore look forward
to a truly, good book. Icelandic River
was of course an Icelandic settlement
iri the area where Riverton now
stands. Its history goes back to 1870s
and is very fascinating. Further
details on Mr. Nelson Gerrard's book
will appear soon.
