2-ALDARAFMÆLISÁR, FÖSTUDAGUR 8. MAÍ 1987
The Washington D.C. Thorrablot
Preparations for the 1985 Thor-
rablot went very well this year. On
Thorrablot morning when a brisk
crew came to assist with the last
minute preparations, everybody felt
that it would be another success. Our
chef, Jon Sigfusson, was there and
Gisli Vilhjalmsson, the new chef at
our embassy, stayed the whole day
assisting him.
At five o'clock the evening started
with a cocktail. Dinner was served at
seven and you could see by the en-
thusiasm on people's faces that it was
well received.
The Icelandic Association honored
two people this year for their
unselfish work through the year on
behalf of the Association. They were
Asgeir Petursson and Petra Holt.
Our honored guests this year were
our new Ambassador Ingvi Ingvars-
son and his wife Holmfridur,
Honorary Consul and Mrs. Hubert
Georges, Simon Pallson of Icelandair
and his wife Thuridur, Pall Petursson
of Icelandic Seafood Corp. and his
wife Halla, Mr. and Mrs. Eysteinn
Helgason of Coldwater Seafood Corp.
Icelandair supported this year's
Thorrablot as in the past. This year's
contribution included bringing all the
food and band instruments into
Balto, Washington airport, the round-
trip for our chef and band, and not
forgetting the ever popular round-trip
to Iceland raffle prize which went to
one of our guests from the Jersey
Shore. The present format of our
celebration would be impossible
without their support. THANK YOU,
ICELANDAIR.
We also want to take this oppor-
tunity and thank the other in-
dividuals and companies who so
generously contributed to our raffle.
Icelandic Seafood, Coldwater Cor-
poration and Mr. and Mrs. Georges,
for contributing fish and seafood pro-
ducts, and Svala Thorisdottir Salman
for the beautiful painting won by our
secretary, Sigurveig, and Johann
Jonsson.
We are again faced with the dilem-
ma of not having room for all those
who wish to join us for this fantastic
Blot. If a superior location is not
found, we will be faced with turning
people away again next year. I have
been on the telephone attempting to
find a location that will accept us
under the conditions we want for our
members, i.e. our own chef, food,
alcohol and band. If anyone of our
members can find such a location or
knows of such a location, please con-
tact me as soon as possible. The con-
tract with the Holiday Inn for next
year must be verified soon.
I wish to extend a very special
