8-LÖGBERG CENTENNIAL YEAR, FÖSTUDAGUR 22. APRÍL 1988 Icelandic exercise milking skjalda Little Sigga was in the country dur- ing summer. Many cows were at the farm. The prettiest and best behaved cow was Skjalda. The children al- ways quarreled about who would milk Skjalda. In the end it was decided that four would milk her two and two at a time. Skjalda usually behaved and remained quiet, even though much commotion was created by the children. But on one occasion things were different. Sigga was milking her into a big pail, when Skjalda began to kick continuously until she was back on the stable floor in her hob- bles. Sigga was scared and rushed hastily into the house to call for help. After this Sigga never dared to milk Skjalda again during the summer. But the small milk maid was only ten years of age. Eftir þetta þorði Sigga aldrei að mjólka Skjöldu um sumarið, en litla mjal- takonan var líka aðeins tíu ára gömul. sveit — country bænum — the farm fallegasta — prettiest þægasta — quietiest mjólka — to milk krökkunum — the children brá — changed fötu — pail sparka — kick sífelu — continuously haftinu — hobble hrædd — scared ofbódi — in a rush þorði — dared mjaltakonan — milkmaid aðeins — only rrr^miil — nln POLUNG DAYINFORMATION Eligible voters for the provincial election will vote Tuesday, April 26, 1988 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You are eligible to vote if you are a Canadian citizen; are 18 years of age or older on or before April 26,1988; and have resided in Manitoba for at least 6 months immediately prior to April 26,1988.
