Grand Duchy:
Countiyside Holiday
Mini-Stays
Now if you’re flying Icelandair to
the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg you
have no good excuse for failing to linger
in the fascinating little land.
“Luxemburg Countryside Holi-
days” offers one-to-three day or
longer packages into the Grand
Duchy’s interior of emerald valleys,
steep-sloped forests and towns with
colorful histories ranging from
Roman times through the medieval,
when Luxemburg was a major
player in Westem Europe, and to the
Battle of the Bulge of World War II
and beyond.
Packages start at $78 for a day,
$156 for two days and $212 for three
days and include a rental car, hotel
accomodations, breakfast daily,
vouchers for admission to selected
attractions including wineries and
museums, and an information kit
including maps and travel in-
structions.
Additional days are available
from $74.
Hotels in the program include
the Beau Sejour in Wiltz, a town
clinging to a steep hillside at the
entrance to the Ardennes Forest and
with a riveting, dramatic Battle of the
Bulge story; the St. Nicolas, a lovely
inn along the banks of the tranquil
Moselle River in Remich, heart of
Luxemburg’s wine region; the du
Commerce in Clervaux, site of the
famous Castle of Clervaux, pictur-
esquely located in a deep valley
in the northern Grand Duchy.
Equally fine hotels are available
in Larochette, Ermsdorf and Stein-
heim.

Sales Crash
Imports to Iceland of small private
aircraft fell from 24 in 1987 to j ust 4 last
year, and operating conditions have
deteriorated badly, according to Ragnar
J. Ragnarsson, chairman of the Iceland
Aero Club.
The result of this has been that two-
thirds of those leaming to fly profes-
sionally now go abroad to do so, a
development which greatly concerns
Ragnarsson, who believes that train-
ing received abroad may not meet
Icelandic conditions and safety stand-
ards.
The introduction ofvalue-added tax
at the beginning of 1989 and the levy-
ing of customs duty on imported air-
craft, are blamed for greatly increasing
costs involved in the purchase and
maintenance of aircraft.
