New Year’s Evening 1952
How joyful was this intersection
When bonfires burned the old year out.
The youngsters, glad, with fond affection,
Around him, sang and danced about.
Now at the silent street l'm staring,
With memories of by-gone days,
An aging man, his message sharing
Was lighting up the New Year's blaze.
This lonely, dark, and cold position,
Though history records it not,
On many a year-end midnight mission,
Was glad and bright, this hallowed spot.
In footsteps soon.the snow gets drifted,
This meeting place is cold and grey. Poemby
