2 • Lögberg-Heimskringla • Föstudagur 6, september 1996 Obituary Helga Hallson Helga was bom to Bogga and Jón Sigurdson on February 23, 1912 in the Mary Hill District. She lived in the Lundar area all of her life, most of those on the family daiiy farm until her re- tirement. During her retirement her door was always open for a cup of coffee and the best homemade bread. She enjoyed gardening, knit- ting, reading and playing cards with her friends at the New Horizons Qub. She was also a member of the Lundar Museum. Helga’s greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchil- dren. “Amma supported them and took great pride in their many achievements. She is survived by her five chil- dren Bob and Fran of Winnipeg, Jean and Ken Hartle of Winnipeg, Ellen Henry of Lake Francis, Carl and Pat of Vancouver and Harold and Val of Lundar. Grandchildren Darryl Hartle and fiance Lia Crabbe, Jackie and Nathan Yamron, Melody Hallson and friend Scott Johnson, Randy and Lori Henry, Michele Hallson and fiance Darren McEwen, Jennifer Hallson and friend Wade Sigfusson, Eric, Scott and Heather Hallson. Great-gran- children are Taylor and Garrett; one brother Dori; brothers-in-law George Edward and Roy Caldwell, John and Pat Fjeldsted; an uncle, Bjorgvin Hallson along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Helga was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1971, a son-in- law Brian Henry in 1993, her par- ents, brothers John and Steini, sis- ters Bjorg and Jorunn, step-sister Esther, two sisters-in-law Magga and Inga and aunt Jessie Hallson, brother-in-law Dori Hallson and his wife Ethel. The family wishes to thank the caregivers for her TJL.C. during her time of need. Flowers gratefully de- clined. The following two years he worked for the space pro- gram in Houston. “We were examin- ing an asteroid from Mars for signs of water and our conclusion was that in all probability it had been in water. These conclusions created much atten- tion at the time.” Haraldur now works for Texas Tech University in Lub- bock, Texas, examining rocks for car- bonic acid and water to determine changes in climate. His work is simi- lar to that in Houston, except this time it involved earthly rocks. “These new conclusions don’t surprise me. The tests I did were done on a certain rock known to be fiom Mars. The new tests were done on another rock found in Antartica which has only recently been determined to come from Mars,” said Haraldur in an interview with Morgunblaðið.
