aldur went to the USA where he com-
pleted his Phd. at the University of
Chicago in 1988. The following two
years he worked for the space pro-
gram in Houston. “We were examin-
ing an asteroid from Mars for signs of
water and our conclusion was that in
all probability it had been in water.
These conclusions created much atten-
tion at the time.” Haraldur now works
for Texas Tech University in Lub-
bock, Texas, examining rocks for car-
bonic acid and water to determine
changes in climate. His work is simi-
lar to that in Houston, except this time
it involved earthly rocks. “These new
conclusions don’t surprise me. The
tests I did were done on a certain rock
known to be fiom Mars. The new tests
were done on another rock found in
Antartica which has only recently
been determined to come from Mars,”
said Haraldur in an interview with
Morgunblaðið.
