PARTONE.A new children ’s story is beginning in this issue. It is takenfrom
an old Icelandic reader, which some ofyou might recognize. Instead of the
word match I am going to try out some word explanations and grammar
definitions as some ofyou have requested.
Einu sinni var lítil, falleg hæna.
Hún bjó í litlu, skrítnu húsi.
Hún átti lítinn garð við húsið.
I húsinu var lítið, skrítið rúm,
og þar var líka litill, skítinn stóll.
Hún átti disk og bolla inni i skíp

games and activities. They had a
scavenger hunt requiring them to ask
questions of their elders to learn more
about their heritage, etc. They also had
trading cards with photos of each of
their own age cousins to put in a small
photo album as a memento of the
reunion. This required each child to
speak to every other child there — a
good mixer. Then the children
entertained their elders with a parade
wearing a ‘Viking hat’ and oversized
brown T-shirt tied at the waist with
cord and carrying the Icelandic and
North Dakota flags.
The older ‘kids’ had three-legged
races, water balloon tosses, relay races
with lots of action and laughter. On
the last evening after a lovely buffet
dinner there was dancing for all ages
from three-year-olds on up.
Almost three days together pro-
vided an opportunity for all of the
“Bamey Bunch” (so labeled on special
T-shirts) to visit, get better acquainted
and relax. The group hopes to have
another reunion in two to three
years. □
