Fj eldsted-Puchala
Marie is in her second
year in the Faculty of
Nursing at the University of
Manitoba. She received her
high school education in
Arborg, MB, maintaining an
85% average. Following her
high school, Marie continued
with her education at
Confederation College in
Thunder Bay, ON, where she
completed the diploma pro-
gram in Broadcasting -
Television. She then found
work in the television-broad-
casting field in Winnipeg. She
has continued to maintain her
high standards in nursing
where she currently has a GPA
of 3.5.
Marie has served her com-
munity in Arborg and
Winnipeg in many volunteer
positions, including 4-H and
environmental issues. She has
volunteered at the Arborg
Personal Care Home and at the
Arborg Hospital, tutoring
English as a Second
Language, participated in the
Manitoba Marathon, rowed
with the Winnipeg Rowing
Club to raise money for the
United Way and volunteered
with Cancer Care Manitoba.
Marie is the daughter of
Ingrid and Brian Fjeldsted of
Geysir, MB.
Megan Atwood
Megan graduated from the
Langley Fine Arts School
where she studied music and
flute, and followed this with a
Bachelor of Science Degree
from the University of British
Columbia. Here she discovered
her passion for veterinary medi-
cine. She is presently enrolled
as a first year student in veteri-
nary medicine at the University
of Saskatchewan.
Megan has worked in vet-
erinary clinics in Ireland and
Canada. She enjoys many
sports including rowing and
cycling and is an avid potter.
Megan has maintained an aver-
age of 86% throughout her uni-
versity career and has been
active in many volunteer activi-
ties at UBC.
Megan is the granddaughter
of Edith Johnson and the great-
granddaughter of Sæunn
Jakobína Eyford and Fridlunder
Johnson.
Dawn Dowhayko
Dawn received her Bachelor
of Arts Degree from the
University of Manitoba and is
now enrolled in her first year of
social work, accumulating a
GPA of 4.25. Dawn also works
as a research assistant and
spends time volunteering in day
care and nursing homes.
Dawn is looking forward to
working with children or the
elderly. Dawn enjoys taking
dance lessons, playing the
piano, and writing.
She is the daughter of Paul
and Peggy Dowhayko of
Winnipeg and the granddaugh-
ter of Kristrun Turner
(Johnson) of Winnipeg and the
great granddaughter of
Jacobina and Steingrimur
Johnson of Wynyard,. SK.

Erika Sigurdson
Erika is a first year student
at the University of New
Brunswick and is active in a
number of organizations pro-
moting social equality and
justice. She is fully bilingual
in English and French and is
currently learning German.
Erika has completed Grade
Seven piano and has taken
part in a number of perform-
ing arts festivals, both in
Fredericton and in Kamloops.
While attaining these impres-
sive goals, Erika has also
managed to maintain a high
school average of just over
91%. She is planning to pur-
sue a degree in Law and hopes
to find a position in the
Foreign Service.
Erika is the granddaughter
of Frank Sigurdson of Vidir,
MB, and the great grand-
daughter of Jon Sigurdson
from Skriðdal, Iceland.

Kristjan Hebert
ristjan is in his second
year of commerce at the
University of Saskatchewan at
Saskatoon. He was raised on
the family farm in Fairlight,
SK, close to Moosomin, and
helps out with the family
chores during the summers.
He hopes to be able to article
for a firm near his home in
order to maintain his rural
roots while working toward
chartered accountancy.
Kristjan’s first love in sports is
hockey, which has delighted
him since he began playing at
four years of age. If he isn’t
playing hockey, he might be
