A new mayor in Reykjavík
Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir became the mayor of Reyk-
javík, Iceland on December 1. She replaced Þórólfur Arna-
son, who decided to step down after nearly two years in office.
After an official report in the beginning of November
stated that Iceland’s three largest oil companies had been
involved in price fixing for yeárs, Þórólfur Árnason, a former
executive of one of the oil companies, announched his resig-
nation as mayor. He was appointed mayor after Ingibjörg
Sólrún Gísladóttir resigned to run for parliament in 2003.
Steinunn Valdís Óskarsdóttir has been on the City Coun-
cil for the Reykjavík List for a decade. She is the R-List’s
third mayor during the four-year term that started in 2002.
