Prices in Place
Royal Greenland and KNAPK have agreed on local
purchase prices and local purchase subsidies for 1991
On Sunday December 30,
1990, following months
long negotiations
KNAPK and Royal Gre-
enland signed an agree-
ment in Nuuk on the lo-
cal purchase prices for
fish in 1991. KNAPK’s ne-
gotiators were the mem-
bers of the Price Com-
mittee, who are Pavia
Nielsen, chairman, Peter
Davidsen, vice-chairman
and three members of
the Executive Commit-
tee. The leader of the ne-
gotiators from Royal
Greenland was one the
managers, Kjeld Holm-
strup.
The agreement includes
the following species: Gre-
enland halibut, catfish.rose
fish, halibut and uuvaq as
well as prawns. Also the mi-
nimum price of cod was
fixed. Further, all asterix-
marked raw materials in the
agreement were discussed.
It was decided that the aste-
rix is removed and instead
the individual production
committees will throughout
the year send proposals to
Royal Greenland’s head Offi-
ce in Nuuk on which of fish
that have been marked by
an asterix up to now, should
perhaps be purchased, or on
where perchase should per-
haps be discontinued.
Purchase subsidies for
the individual species were
also allocated, and the subsi-
dies will be re-evaluated be-
fore June 1, 1991, at the la-
test.

Information Fund was en-
sured. Every three months
one per cent of the value of
purchased raw materials,
less the purchase subsidies,
will be paid to the fund,
which will provide the fund
with an income of approx.
DKK 3 million.
Greenland Hallbut
It was agreed that for Gre-
enland halibut there should
no longer be a difference in
price between North- and
South greenland. On Janua-
ry 15, 1991 objective price
criteria which will follow the
development of world mar-
ket prices,will be introdu-
ced. Prices will be resulated
every third month. The ba-
sis price for Greenland hali-
but weighing from 1 to 3.5
kilos wUl be DKK 2.55 per
kilo and from 3.5 kilos and
above DKK 6.05 per kilo.
It was agreed that there
should be a difference in pri-
ce between line-caught and
net-caught Greenland hali-
but. As from Januaiy 1 the
price for small line-caught
Greenland halibut will be
DKK 4.o5 per kilo and for
large ones DKK 8.24 per ki-
lo. The price for small net-
caught Greenland halibut
will be DKK 3.85 per kilo
and for the large ones DKK
7.35 per kilo.
The purchase subsidy for
Greenland halibut will be
DKK 1.05 per kilo.
It was also agreed by the
parties that they will apply
to the Greenland Home Ru-
le Directorate for Fisheries
and Industry for the mini-
mum size-limit for Green-
land halibut to be reduced
from the present 1.5 kilo to
1.0 kilo.
The increase in price for
Greenland halibut is ap-
prox. 20 per cent.
Cod
It was agreed that the mini-
mum price for cod will be
increased from 95 per cent
to 100 per cent of the com-
mercial price.
Minimum size-limit for
purchased cod will be 44
centimetres, but the produc-
tion committee may have
this limit changed. The pro-
duction plants must apply to
Royal Greenland for this
exemption.
Other fish
The price of catfish will be
increased by 5 per cent, pri-
me catfish with head and
without entrails will be pur-
chased at DKK 5.26 per kilo,
the purchase subsidy will be
the same as now. The incre-
ase in price comes into force
on January 1,1991.
Also the price of rose fish
will be increased by 5 per
cent, the purchase price will
thus be DKK 4.69 including
purchase subsidy.
The price of halibut is in-
creased by approx. 10 per
cent, and the purchase price
will thus be DKK 11.20 per
kilo for prime small, DKK
18.20 per kilo for medium-
sized and, as at present,
DKK 15.00 per kilo for large
halibut.
Also the price of uuvaq is
increased by 10 percent, pri-
me with head and without
entrails will be purchased at
DKK 3.30 per kilo including
purchase subsidy. It was al-
so agreed to introduce objec-
tive price criteria for uuvaq
with a basis price of DKK
1.00 per kilo.
The prices of salmon and
char will be negotiated se-
parately in the spring of
1991.
Prawns
The parties prolonged the
purchase price agreement
for prawns of July 5, 1990
with only a few alterations.
The purchase price for
prawns will follow world
market prices - which means
that objective price criteria
will be introduced, and the
minimum price will be DKK
8.75 per kilo on an average
for the three sizes. Green-
land Home Rule will gua-
rantee the average price of
DKK 8.75 per kilo through
the Finance Act in which
DKK 9.7 miil. have been al-
located for this purpose.
In addition an extra subsi-
dy of DKK 0.25 per kilo has
been set aside for the three
sizes of prawns. So the ave-
rage prices for prawns will
be at least DKK 9.00 per ki-
lo.
Also, the price of wrap-
ping for blocks of prawn will
be reduced to DKK 2.00 per
sack - a price that has pre-
viously been as high as DKK
4.00.
If surplus weight is regi-
stered in the prawn boxes,
the surplus weight will be
paid for; this is in contrast to
previous procedures where
surplus weight was not paid
for. However, the aim is that
the weight stipulated in the
purchase instructions be ob-
served.
Rise Amounting to
DKK 20 million
The rise in prices seen in re-
lation to the last agreement
is as follows:
Gr. halibut DKK 3,000,000
Catfish DKK 110,000
Rose fish DKK 10,000
Halibut DKK 150,000
Uuvaq DKK 100,000
Prawns DKK 7,700,000
The reduction in the price
of wrapping to DKK 2.oo per
sack has a value of approx.
DKK 1.6 miil. for the mem-
bers of KNAPK, here the so-
called 79’ers, and the future
payment for surplus weight
in the prawn boxes is esti-
mated by KNAPK at an an-
nual value of DKK 7 mili.
In other words the recent-
ly signed agreement betwe-
en KNAPK and Royal Gre-
enland may be estimated at
an annual improvement of
approx. DKK 20 mili. as
compared to the preceding
agreement.
To ensure the minimum
price of DKK 8.75 per kilo
for prawns, the amount of
DKK 9.7 mili. is supplied
through the Finance Act. If
world market prices remain
at the present level of DKK
7.94 per kilo, it will be neces-
sary for Kaj Egede, Member
of the landsstyre to apply to
the Landsting for a supple-
mentary allocation of DKK
15.3 miil.
