Knox Prom ses World’s
Finest Navy
“The days of preparation and
patient waiting are over and from
this point each week will mark
the addition of new and power-
ful combat ships to our fleet,”
Navy Secretary Frank Knox de-
clared in Indianapolis, Ind.
He addressed, Indiana citizens
at an Indianapolis War Bond ral-
ly to pay for the construction of
a new cruiser to replace the Vin-
cennes that was sunk in the Solo-
mons.
Knox pointed out that the 1943
crop of destroyers will be greater
than the total of all American de-
stroyers in service at the end of
1942.
This Year
“Each hour will add guns and
shells to our arsenals in tremend-
ous quantities,” stated the Navy
Secretary. “The German submar-
ine menace will receive ample
opposition during spring and
summer in the form of many new
destroyer escorts that will be
completed during the early pari
of 1943.”
Knox asserted that the $67,000,-
000,000 made available by Con-
gress for naval expansion three
years ago would now reap its
harvest.
Air Corps
The Red Cross is trying to get
our outfit to give another per-
formance of “Buck Passing” at
the Rec Center .... As yet, there
hasn’t been any affirmative an-
swer, as we understand the cast
is playing hard to get! .... After
seeing pictures of Sgt. Norelli
as a female jitterbug, we wond-
er how long this has been going
on? ....At that, some ardent
admirers were seen asking for
his autograph!
Sgt. Samuel Kopp.
We’d like lo thank the Red
Cross gals who came over to our
place recently to entertain ....
Just talking to a gal from New
Jersey was entertainment enough
.... But, in addition, Miss Reta
Shaw provided much musical
fun. Grasso’s imitation of Baby
Snooks, and a couple’ of tall
stories by the man who can tell
’em best, “Tex” Huff, plus Lou
Gilbert’s humor, rounded out the
evening’s fun, which ended after
Miss Shaw and the boys polished-
off the vocals of all the popular
songs they could remember.
Sgt. Don Groth.
