Aid of the Selkirk Lutheran Church was a pillar of strength to
its church for nearly seventy years until it disbanded this year.
Among its most active and loyal members was Maria Hinrikson;
for a time she was its president and for many years its secretary.
During the last six years of her life she was an honorary member.
Maria was an intellectual person and capable of expressing
her thoughts very effectively in writing.
As I write this short tribute I feel that Maria would have
liked me to express the fact that she was greatly blessed all through
her life. She was brought up in a deeply religious atmosphere in
her parents’ home, a member of a large family. She had a beautiful
sojourn with a devoted husband for forty-eight years. God gave her
two lovely children, eight grandchildren and two great-grand-
children. She was blessed with strong health until the last íive years
of her life and during those years she was enfolded by the loving
care of her daughter Ólöf and her husband and children. She was
called Home on a beautiful day in spring, May 23rd, 1962, sur-
rounded by her loved ones.
Beside those mentioned above Maria is survived by one sister,
Olive Burnson of Las Vegas, and three brothers, Leo of Calgary,
Barney and Snorri of Selkirk.
Her source of strength during her last illness is expressed in
the following verse she loved.
My Jesus as thou wilt
All shall be well with me.
Each changing future scene
I gladly trust with Thee.
Straight to my home above
I travel calmly on
And singing in life and death
My Lord thy will be done.
