Spotlight from page 4
Working around the clock, they
have reduced their workable
backlog down to single digit
numbers, an unheard of accom-
plishment. I am extremely proud
of them and their recent Sailors
of the Quarter, ATI Ted Hohman
and AS3 Evan Ramirez.
Likewise, the Aviation Supply
Detachment has done an incredi-
ble job keeping the planes flying
and the parts moving. I think of
the “suppliers” as our unsung
heroes. They are seldom noticed
until the parts stop arriving, then
they get all the attention!
Under the sharp eye of Lt. j. g.
Kevin Borkert and AKCS Arlene
Gamer, the professionals at the
Aviation Supply Detachment
continue to uphold the highest
standards in the fleet justifying
their claim that they are the best
Aviation Support Detachment in
the Fleet. They recently selected
AK2 Rusty Ridler and AKAN
Jennifer Bush as their Sailors of
the Quarter.
Among the many exercises we
support, the one that is hardly
mentioned is the Space Shuttle
(STS) Ready. PATRON
Keflavik, is one of three North
Atlantic PATRONs that assume
the role as a Search and Rescue
(SAR) standby. Essentially, the
aircrew is on the aircraft
strapped in their seats with
engines running in case the
space shuttle has to abort mid-
flight. During all this, the CFK
OPCON is on the phone with
Mission Control in Cape
Canaveral in case the SAR
launch has to be made. The
coordination of this brief evolu-
tion is in no way simple yet well
worth the effort, ft is one less
worry for the STS crew in their
important missions.
In our MWR corner, CFK will
have several booths at the long
awaited NAS Keflavik Spring
Carnival. Come by and pop a
balloon with a dart a win an
assortment of candy for the kids.
Since I have checked into CFK, I
have seen the MWR program
grow tremendously and could
not be more proud of my CFK
committees. They have worked
tirelessly to raise money for our
Command picnic and Christmas
party.
Lastly, I would also like to rec-
ognize some of the great Sailors
1 have the pleasure of working
with here on the CFK staff. I
take great pleasure in recogniz-
ing our new Sailor of the
Quarter, IT2 Dwayne Cuyler and
Junior Sailor of the Quarter, ET3
Mike Quiros. My congratula-
tions to you all.
Have a great, and safe, sum-
mer.
