Sun-downers set
square sessions
The Midnight Sun-downers have
set September 11 as the tentative
starting datefor their next class
in American Square Dancing.
Classes start at 7 p.m., and
will run for the succeeding 15
weeks. The first three nights
are open for registration of new
dancers, and are at no cost. The
registrations must close after
that because of the nature and
volume of material to be present-
ed.
The club is asking those in-
terested to contact one of the
officers and leave names and phone
numbers. The officers are: Ron
Markus (8252),Lee Kasting (8566),
Boyd Swartz (8106), Larry Pearson
(8650), Gena Shibley (8565) and
Sandy Gray (8589). A minimum of
16 couples is needed for classes
to commence.
A number of senior teens have
also expressed an interest in the
class, but were not sure if they
were eligible. Senior teens are
eligible and welcome to attend
the classes.

Marine Corps Major General Marion E. Carl visited the naval sta-
tion this week to look over the operations of the Marine Barracks
here.
Known as the Marines' first
contributions to Marine Corps a-
viation during World War II, and
in the years since the war.

of Midway, he earned the Navy
Cross while leading an attack a-
gainst a vastly superior Japanese
bomber and fighter force. His
second Navy Cross was earned at
Guadalcanal.
The General also saw combat
duty in Korea and in the Vietnam
area.
He wears the following decora-
tions: Navy Cross with a bronze
star in lieu of a second Navy
Cross (the nation's second high-
est combat award), the Legion of
Merit with Combat V, Distinguished
Flying Cross with four gold stars
in lieu or the second through
fifth awards, the Air Medal with
two silver stars and three gold
stars denoting 14 awards, Presi-
dential Unit Citation with one
bronze star, American Defense
Service Medal with base clasp,
Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal with
three bronze stars, American Cam-
paign Medal, World War II Victory
Medal, National Defense Service
Medal with a bronze star, Vietnam
Service Medal and the Republic
Vietnam Campaign Medal.
