Christmas - celebrated on television
Story by J02 Chuck Nason & Photos by JOSN Terry J. Carroll
Christinas came early to Ameri-
can Forces Television this year
with a gala holiday show on Dec.
18. The stars of the show were
local entertainment groups, choir
ensembles, and Santa Claus him-
self.
The show was actually a com-
bined base effort with the galley
donating cupcakes, punch, and a
large cake. The Officer and CPO
wives provided the candy and the
base special services presented
the station with a tree.
Featured performances were
given by the Jest Four, Yule Jew-
els, Dr. Myers, A.T. Mahan Band,
Keflavik Girls Choir, and the
Good News Choir. The fourth
grade class from A.T. Mahan also
gave a choral reading.
It would be difficult to de-
Ragnhildur and Sigrun Kristjansdottir visited the American Santa
Claus during AFTV's Christmas program. Their brother Robert trans-
lated for them and other Icelandic children who visited Santa.
termine who had the most fun on
the show, but the children's fa-
ces seemed to tell the story.
"Do you mean that this is the
real Santa Claus?" is probably
what Veronica Beard is think-
ing. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ray 0. Beard.
The fourth grade choral reading class from A.T.
Mahan read Christmas poems during American Forces
Television's annual Christmas program.
President’s Christmas Message
"As we move into this season, consecrated to the'
ideals of human brotherhood, for the first time in
many years this nation can see a day when those
ideals may become a reality. We see before us a
generation of peace for America. Because we have
seen the potentialities of war, we know the neces-
sity of peace.
But, at this time of the year, we are especially
conscious that peace is more than a practical ne-
cessity. It is a spiritual imperative. We are
equally conscious that the price of peace, like the
price of freedom, is eternal vigilance.
In the long journey toward peace, our men and
women in uniform have kept the vigil. It is you
who have recognized that peace without freedom is
not acceptable and that freedom without strength is
not possible. It is because of your devotion, your
courage and your sacrifices that we now come to
this season of light, with the firm belief that the
light will not fade again and that there may be at
last peace on earth, goodwill towards men for ov^
time and for all time.
Mrs. Nixon and I join with a grateful nation
wishing you the warmest blessings of this Christma?
Season."
