White Falcon April 30, 1976 (Photo by AN Bob Herskovitz) Little League starts Little League tryouts will be held tomorrow for all registered or depend- ents interested in registering at this time. Tryouts will be held at the Little League field. All selected managers and coaches are requested to attend at times stated for their age group. Applications are strongly requested from age group 13-15 for a senior league division this year. This division is an addition to last year's league. However, interest at present does not justify the cost of equipment and uniforms. Every effort will be made to make this league division possible. Tryouts are considered mandatory for all players within the area to achieve the balance of talent during draft of players. All players who fail to attend tryouts will be assigned to teams by the player agent. Times for tryouts are as follows: Age group Time 9 and 10 11:00 11 and 12 1:00 •13 to 15 3:00 SP0RTSLINE Softball leagues shape-up The 1976 slowpitch Softball league now has 25 entries. The leagues will be formed with early line favorites based only on past performance being CFK and Grindavik and the 57th. Darkhorses with the potential to upset the early line are MCS, AFI and Hosp and the Bo- diddlies. Real long shots are Recre- ation and the Specters. A cinch to al- ways be a winner is Jupiter Plurius. Intermediate Twelve teams will play in intermedi- ate softball with 57th, Rockville and the Marines sure to be in the front. AIMD and AFI will probably be the foxes while NAVFAC and Security are almost sure to play the role of hounds. Sure to spring a few surprises are the Super- zombies while the Clowns will supply the entertainment. Fastpitch Pitching will be the name of the. game as five teams will probably play. Bob McDermott will guarantee the Independ- GoMers get ready for the 1976 season The first meeting was held Wednesday with about ten prospective teams. Team setups are unknown at this time, howii ever, AFI is known to have a one-handi- capper, so they.will rule as the early favorite* Play will begin around May 12 at Keflavik Golf Club. Paul Eastman will be chairman, and he has arranged some matches with Ness, Keflavik and Graveholt golf clubs for the summer. Paul's number is 2121 for any informa- tion. ents a shot at the pennant with other pitching being a good question mark. More will be available as soon as the pitchers crawl out from under the con- venient rocks with the coming of warmer weather. Ladies' Softball Six teams have been formed with two more needed. Anyone wishing to play or anyone wishing to form a team, contact Dick Plante. The WAVES look like the early favorites with some good athletes. However, there are many unknown quanti- ties. More will be known in next week's edition. Helpers needed It's almost time for the end of this school session and that means that it's almost summer sports season for hund- reds of kids on the NATO Base. That means that it's almost Tee Ball season. Tee Ball is a team game like baseball consisting of a ball batted from a tee, instead of being pitched, and everyone hitting and fielding. It's free for children ages 5 to 8 who wants to play. But Bill Thornton, a representative of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), which is sponsoring Tee Ball, said unless some parents and adults start volunteering to help out, there may not be a Tee Ball season this year. The FRA needs coaches, assistants, time keepers or whatever skills a person cares to bring to the kids. If you are interested in helping, or if you would like to register your boy or girl for Tee Ball, call Bill Thornton at home 6278 or at work 7507 or Chris Christop- uerson at home 7562 or at work 4182.
