Recently selected as Service Members
of the Quarter, five men and one woman
were honored Wednesday in the office of
Read Admiral Harold G. Rich, commander
Iceland Defense Force.
Each received a Letter of Commenda-
tion, a plaque of Iceland and a priority
III on the station E & M Flight.
"I have enjoyed my tour in Iceland
very much. I think it's what you make
it," stated Construction Electrician
Third Classs Jack Sprengel of the Public
Works Department where he is responsible
for maintaining all overhead power
distribution systems for the NATO Base.
CE3 Sprengel was chosen Petty Officer
of the Quarter. He has been in Iceland
more than 15 months.
"I have seen quite a bit of Iceland
and have been to Germany to visit rela-
tives. The weather doesn't bother me
and I consider it a real challenge to my
job." said CE3 Sprengel.
When asked the one thing he would
recommend to someone receiving orders to
Icelandj he replied, "Don't just stay on
base, go out and see the country and
meet the people."
"I have enjoyed my tour here and I
extended last August for another year—
I've gone camping, toured Iceland and
attended University of Maryland clas-
ses," commented Radioman Seaman Donna
Anderson, the Sailor of the Quarter.
"The biggest difficulty I have had is
getting off base to sightsee because of
a lack of transportation," she said.
RMSN Anderson is attached to Special
Communications Division (NAVCOMMSTA) at
Rockville. She performs her duties in
the field of tactical communications and
upon leaving Iceland, she plans to con-
tinue her work in ..the Navy.

to the Marine Barracks as a legal clerk.
He handles matters such as paperwork for
court martials and Article 15s; he has
baliff duties and does correspondence.
SGT. GEORGE WALKER makes some final adjustments on a piece of gear. He was chosen
the Airman of the Quarter.
The Toledo, Ohio resident doesn't
particularly care for the weather, but
recommends that anyone coming to Iceland
bring proper clothing and he will better
enjoy the country.
"Adjusting to the weather, it's too
cold," said Sergeant Terry Walker when
asked what difficulties he has run into
since arriving in Iceland. Selected as
Marine Non-Commissioned Officer of the
Quarter, Sgt. Walker performs duties as
sergeant of the guard and second squad
leader of the second section.
"I like Iceland— I do my job by try-
ing to bring about a high degree of
professionalism among my men which is
part of Marine standards."
"I have to admit, private transporta-
tion is the one thing I really miss here
in Iceland," commented Technical Ser-
geant Clifford G. Weller, Non-Commissi-
oned Officer of the Quarter.
TSgt. Weller is responsible for the
overall efficiency, di 'ipline and per-
formance of the Master Direction Center
at Rockville which is part of the Air
Defense Command. He has been in Iceland
11 months.
TSgt. Weller has coordinated a vari-
ety of volunteer projects within the
squadron including coaching and playing
basketball, racquetball and softball.
Asked how he has enjoyed his tour in
Iceland, TSgt. Weller, with a big smile
and a twinkle in his eye, replied, "It
has truly been different."
Sergeant George Walker, the Airman of
the Quarter said he has found his first
four months in Iceland interesting.
