NavFac awarded
Golden Anchor
Naval Facility Keflavik (NavFac),
under the command of Cdr. Richard
T. Porter, has been selected by COM-
OCEANSYSLANT to receive the Golden
Anchor Award for its outstanding
career retention program.
NavFac's top retention team is
headed by Command Career Counselor
SKI Alan Hortz, and features active
involvement at all levels of the
command. Key elements of the pro-
gram include an active and produc-
tive family Ombudsman, Mrs. Shirley
Fierro, a well organized sponsor
program, command letters to parents
and spouses, improved internal com-
munications , involvement of depend-
ents in command activities, reen-
listment flights, command advance-
ment program and plenty of recognit-
ion for individual achievement.
These and other career retention
efforts at NavFac have resulted in
the command's recognition as best
among ten competing Naval Facilities
for maintaining "a dynamic, well-
organized and effective counselling
program in which all hands actively
participate."

holidays the following recreational
facilities were manned by Air Force

The Naval Station decided to per-

drews Theater, The Arctic Lanes
Bowling Alley, and The A.E. House
Gymnasium in order to give the Spe-
cial Services personnel some time
off, kept expenses down, and the fa-
cilities open during the holiday
season.
Volunteeers who operated The Arc-
tic Lanes Bowling Alley were: Senior
Airman Louis T. Davis, Jr. of the
57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron,
Airman 1st Class James P. Dutton,
Sgt. William T. Arehart, Senior Mas-
ter Sgt. Grant W. Dunn, and Airman
1st Class Raymond Schrouder all at-
tached with Air Forces Iceland.
The Andrews Theater was managed
by Staff Sgt. David P. Rasbold and

Defense Force, Airman Lonny R. May-
berry and Staff Sgt. Samuel E.
Briley of 57th Fighter Interceptor
Squadron, Senior Master Sgt. George
H. Barrett, Senior Master Sgt. Paul
D. Cozort, Master Sgt. Albert F.
Stewart and Staff Sgt. Joan L.
Porter of Air Forces Iceland, and
Staff Sgt. Patrick H. Hogan of De-
tachment 4, 1913 Communication

The A. E. House Gymnasium was
operated by Chief Master Sgt. J.R.
Hooker, Airman 1st Class James P.
Dutton, Master Sgt. Donald R. Wills,
Master Sgt. Andrew N. Scontriono and
