Porter, has been selected by COM- OCEANSYSLANT to receive the Golden Anchor Award for its outstanding career retention program. NavFac's top retention team is headed by Command Career Counselor SKI Alan Hortz, and features active involvement at all levels of the command. Key elements of the pro- gram include an active and produc- tive family Ombudsman, Mrs. Shirley Fierro, a well organized sponsor program, command letters to parents and spouses, improved internal com- munications , involvement of depend- ents in command activities, reen- listment flights, command advance- ment program and plenty of recognit- ion for individual achievement. These and other career retention efforts at NavFac have resulted in the command's recognition as best among ten competing Naval Facilities for maintaining "a dynamic, well- organized and effective counselling program in which all hands actively participate."
