AFI-2 & NavCommSta are tied for lead
With three weeks of the summer
season left in intramural bowling,
eight teams are in a hot contest for
the top spot in the American League.
Currently, AFI #2 and NavCommSta
are tied for the lead, but six other
teams are less than four games back.
AFI held a six game advantage a
month ago, but over the last three
weeks has managed only one win a
night. Going into this week's ac-
tion they held a two game lead, but
that evaporated when they dropped a
3-1 decision to Navy Broadcasting.
Bruce Michaelson had a 574 series
which included games of 205 and 213
while Jim Kearney had a 540, inclu-
ding a 216 and 214, for AFI. Those
sets were offset by Skip Groce's 547
and Ron Gulick's 211 and 542 along
with NBS' handicap.
While AFI was dropping three,
CommSta was winning three from AIMD
even though AIMD's Nick Nassar had a
200 and 533.
The 960th AWACSS is in third, one
game off the pace. They tripped
Food Service for three in a marathon
match that was marred by machine
breakdowns. Phil Charron led AWACSS
with a 225 and 515, Bill Jasper had
a 511 and Mike Luce added a 210.
Oscar Amoroso topped Food Service
with a 510. AIMD is tied with NBS
for fourth two games off the pace.
The 57th FIS got back in the thick
of things with a 4-0 win over VP-46
and now trail the leaders by two and
a half. Food Service is a half game
behind the 57th and IDF is a half
game behind Food Service.
Willa Dugan and Ron Hancock team-
med to win the Best Ball tournament
held last weekend by the Women's
Bowling Association.
They rolled a 659 series to beat
out Millie Fahland and Patt Ponder
who finished with a 654. The Pres-
ley's, Anne and Cecil, grabbed the
third spot with a 631 series.
Dugan and Ponder changed partners
to both finish in the money three
times. Dugan and Dan Smith were
fourth with a 618 while Ponder and
Dugan had a 608 and Ponder and
In remaining action in the Ameri-
can League, Norm Bemis had a 203
game as the Commissary took three
from IDF. Dale Peters paced IDF
with a 211 and 524. Ace Abram had a
549 set as Comptroller and NavFac
split their match.
In the North Atlantic League,
CommSta NRK only split last week
with the 960th AWACSS but still man-
aged to move two games ahead. Doug
Drewry rolled a 633 set to pace NRK.
He had games of 225 and 216. Dan
Smith followed with a 205 and 546
while Casey Casebolt's 519 and Ray
Reynolds' 210 paced the 960th.
NRK picked up the game when Air
Ops #1 dropped three to the Pass Of-
fice. W.C. York did the damage for
PSD with a J209 and 549 and Mike
Berry added a 201.
In other" league action, Donn
Sheldon had a 537 set, but it wasn't
enough as his CFK team dropped three
to Club Management. Larry Rose had
a 504 to lead the 57th FIS #4 team
to a 4-0 shutout win over Medical
#2, AIMD #2 was a 3-1 winner over
the Black Knights and Weapons won
three from Air Ops //2 even though
Ops' Joe Griffo had a 566 series.
The Good Guys from the 57th FIS
continued to pace the National Lea-
gue as they shutout ComFairKef and
now hold a three and a half game ad-
vantage.
Danny Bushong had a 510 in second
place Medical's 3-1 decision over
AFI. The Supply Chiefs, in third,
kept pace by winning three from Den-
tal behind Joe McGlynn's 203 and
Sheryl Smith rounded out the winners
with a 604.
High game honors during the two-
day event went to the Fahland-Ponder
tandem with a 266.
Bowl scotch doubles
The Women's Bowling Association
will be holding scotch doubles to-
morrow and Sunday at the Arctic
Lanes. Bowling times will be 5-10
p.m. tomorrow and 5-9 p.m. Sunday.

Rounding out the action, IsComlce
was a 3-1 winner over the Navy Ex-
change even though Alex Sison rolled
a 554 for the losers. The 57th FIS
#5 team, Supply #2, the CFK Chiefs
and CommSta NRK #2 all split. Walt
Myros had a 533 and Jim Barrineau a
202 and 531 for the 57th. Floyd
Beatty paced CFK with a 209 and 521
and Steve Roselli had a 222 and 516
for NRK.
In the International League, AFI
and Specomm remained tied for the
league lead as they both shutout
their opponents.
Art Kane had a 525 for AFI and
they dropped NSGA #2 while Specomm
blanked Grindavik behind George
Letke's 535 and Herb Hare's 522.
Third place Admin won three from
NavFac with Andy Marrical rolling a
507 for the winners. Curtis Brodnax
had a 206 and 535 for the 960th^^^^
AWACSS as they blanked the Marines
Det. 14 won four from Public Works^^^^V
behind Dale Cook's 205 and 539 and^^^^
NavFac #1 won three from NSGA #1.
