AFI awards outstanding personnel
Major Bauer, Air Forces Iceland
(AFI) Headquarters Squadron Comman-
der, recognized several outstanding
performers at a recent Commander's
Call.
Those receiving awards were:
Chief Master Sgt. Joseph T. Freiss,
AFI Personnel, received the Meritor-
ious Services Award Second Oak Leaf
Cluster; Tech. Sgt. Noreen C. Gied-
lin, Operations Control, received
the Air Force Commendation Medal
First Oak Leaf Cluster; Tech. Sgt.
William T. Powers Jr., AFI Supply,
received the Air Force Commendation
Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster;
Staff Sgt. Allen R. Provart, AFI
Supply, received the Air Force Com-
mendation Medal; Staff Sgt. Peter G.
Sanders, AFI Supply, received the
Air Force Commendation Medal; Sgt.
Sherman T. Parks Jr., AFI Supply,
received the Air Force Commendation
Medal; Sgt. Donna K. Whalen, AFI Ad-
ministrator, received the Air Force
Commendation Medal;
Tech. Sgt. Thomas C. Flowers, AFI
Comptroller, received the Headquar-
ters Squadron NCO of the Quarter a-
ward for April - June; and Senior
Airman Charles W. Cole Jr., AFI
Comptroller, received the Headquar-
ters Squadron Airman of the Quarter
award for April - June.
Webster College graduates fourteen
On Saturday, July 5, 1980 the
Webster College Master of Arts Pro-
gram in Management and Human Rela-
tions held a formal graduation din-
ner and ceremony at the Officers'
Club in the ballroom.
Eleven of the 14 students who
qualified to receive their degrees
attended the ceremony. They re-
ceived congratulatory letters from
the President of Webster College,
Leigh Gerdine, which were presented
by Joseph Olszewski, Assistant Dean
of the college, and Patricia Sager,
Keflavik Program Coordinator.
The following students were hon-
ored: George Carrington and Dale
Cook who completed in March 1980;
William Smith who completed in May;
Ronald Beltz, John Buckley, Emerson
Dyer, Charles Rowell, and Rochelle
Wheeler who completed In July. The
three students who have completed
their degree work but could not at-
tend are: Zola Debose, Kevin Phil-
lips, and Russel Samson.
Graduating in October will be:
James Collins, Paul Solomon and Ric-
hard Wilson.
The honorable Richard A. Ericson
Jr., American Ambassador to Iceland,
was the guest speaker. Cmdr. A. R.
Marrical, Executive Officer Keflavik
Naval Station, also made some con-
gratulatory remarks to the honored
guests and students. Joe Olszewski,
Assistant Dean for Webster’s main
campus in St. Louis, made a brief
speech recognizing each graduate's
academic achievement.
ANOTHER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT—The following students received congratula-
tory letters from the President of Webster College, Leigh Gerdine, which
were presented by Joeseph Olszewski (right) Assistant Dean of the College
and Patricia Sager, Keflavik Program Coordinator at a recent ceremony held
in the Officers' Club: (left-right) Ron Beltz, John Buckley, Dale Cook,

Danny Wayne and Helen Delores Cheek.
Petty Officer Cheek works with the
Weapons Department.
Eric Brendan McPherson was bom
at 11:38 p.m. June 29 to Lt. Cmdr.
Robert Carter and Frances Kay Mc-
Pherson. Lt. Cmdr. McPherson works
with the Naval Station.
Matthew William Ward was bom at
9:28 a.m. July 6 to 0T2 William
Charles and Susan Mary Ward. Petty
Officer Ward works with U. S. Naval
Facility.
Knight selected
outstanding enlisted
Senior Airman Brian R. Knight was
recently selected as Detachment 14's
Outstanding Enlisted for the month
of June. His selection was based on
his superior knowledge of the HH-3E
helicopter, "Jolly Green Giant" air-
craft systems; his willingness to
aid others and his overall military
bearing and behavior.
SrA. Knight currently performs
duties as the crew chief on an HH-3E
helo. In addition to performing
routine scheduled inspections and
ground handling tasks, he also pro-
vides troubleshooting assistance to
maintenance specialists from the 57
Fighter Interceptor Squadron . when
they are called upon to support De-
tachment 14.
SrA. Knight's professional per-
formance and dedication to the res-
cue mission has helped Detachment 14
to maintain its "Jolly Greens" on a
continuous 24-hour alert.
