cop lilies in intramural bowling
Two of four titles were decided
this week in intramural bowling as
NavCommSta and CommSta NRK clinched
the top spots in the American and
North Atlantic leagues.
NavCommSta went into Monday
night's action needing only one win,
and their 2-2 split with the 960th
AWACSS was more than enough to cop
the title for the American league.
AWACSS was led by Bill Flynn, Ed
Jones and Mike Luce with 524, 513
and 527 respectively.
AFI #2 and Food Services went
head-to-head to break their tie for
second place and AFI, behind four
500 series, took three games and un-
disputed possession of second place.
Jim Kearney topped the team with a
205 and 585, followed by Pete Piet-
ruszewski with 540, Ken Peer with a
513 and Ray Peterson with 509.
AIMD grabbed third place with a
3 1/2-1/2 victory over !JBS. Perrie
Boren was high for the winners with
a 202 and 563 while Ron Gulick's
520 paced the losers. In other
American league action, VP-46 took
three from the Commissary behind Jay
Colburn's 212 and 547; Mike Braeden
paced Comptroller to a 4-0 shutout
against NavFac; and the 57th FIS
grabbed all four games from IDF de-
spite Dale Peters' 533. Jose Floir-
endo had a 210 and 528 for the FIS.

In the North Atlantic league,
CommSta NRK defeated Air Ops 4-0 and
successfully defended their title
for the sixth straight season.
Air Ops was only two back going
into Monday night's action, but Dan
Smith's 217 and 589, Russ Beard's
225 and 554, Doug Brewery's 545 and
Greg Loos' 510 proved to be too much
for the Air Ops squad, which fin-
ished in second place.
The battle for third place be-
tween PSD and CFK began Monday night
in a deadlock. A 3-1 victory broke
that deadlock for PSD and they fin-
ished in third place. Leo Tazzi and
Donn Sheldon recorded 535 and 511
respectively for CFK which ended up
in fourth place.
In other action, JoJo Enriquez's
557 and Abe Guzman's 515 throttled
Club Management to a 3-1 win over
AWACSS; the 57th FIS 1/4 was a 4-0
winner over Weapons behind a 556
series from Paul Montgomery; AIMD #2
blanked the . Black Knights 4-0; and
Medical #2 posted a 3-1 win over Air
Ops #2.
In the International League,
Specomm took a 3-1 decision over
NavFac behind George Letke's 512
series. The win left Specomm three
games ahead of AFI with one week of
play remaining.
Russ Beard and Linda Patrizi were
the top finishers in last weekend's
no tap tournament sponsored by the
Keflavik Men's Bowling Association.
Beard paced the men's division
with a 736 series while Patrizi held
on for a one pin victory in the
women's division with a 639.
High game honors went to Sam
Spear for the men and Linda Tackett
and Patrizi fof the women. All
three rolled high games of 278.
Starr Lindner placed second for
the women with a 638 series while
Tackett and Willa Dugan took the
remaining two spots with a 635 and
634 respectively.
Second place AFI split 2-2 with
Public Works with Bill Ward's 513
for PW highlighting that match.
Admin, which holds down third place,
posted a 3-1 win over the 960th
AWACSS, while NSGA II1 and Det. 14
split 2-2. NSGA was paced by Tom
Andrews' 243 and 536 and Paul
Saucedo's 502 led the detachment.
Det. 14 is in fourth nlace only one
game behind Admin.
NavFac #1 and Grindavik round out
the remaining action with 4-0 wins
over NSGA III and the Marines by
forfeit.
The 57th Good Guys, Medical, the
Supply Chiefs and CommSta NRK #2
hold down the first four positions
in the National league with only one
week of bowling left.
The Good Guys, powered by Rick
Browning's 516 shutout Supply II2 4-0
and Medical posted a 3-1 decision
over the 57th FIS II5 despite Jim
Barrineau's 205 game and Bob Shaf-
fer's 501 for the FIS.
The Supply Chiefs split their
match against the CFK Chiefs 2-2
with Bill Harrell's 204 and 543
pacing the team. CommSta NRK II2
lost three games to the Navy Ex-
change despite a 5-4 series from Don
Cook.
In remaining action in the Nat-
ional league, George Kellerman's 210
and 523 led AFI to a 4-0 shutout
over ComFairKef, and Cuspids Crusa-
ders bested IsComlce 3-1.
Second place in the men's divi-
sion went to Ed Jones with a 718.
Ed Saunder's 711 earned third place
and Sam Spear finished fourth with a
709. Mike Varney captured the fifth
spot with a 690, Bob Shaffer's 638
was good enough for sixth, and Greg
Loos and Dale Cook placed in the
seventh and eight spots with 684 and
683 respectively. The remaining
men's finishers were Jose Floirendo
with a 679, Frank Patrizi 660, Jack
Torbert 658, Cecil Presley with a
653 and Dale Peters finishing with a
652.
The next no tap tournament will
be held tomorrow and Sunday. Bow-
ling times are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
