The letter-mall standards and
nonstandard mall surcharge are de-
signed to control U.S. Postal Ser-
vice costs by increasing the volume
of mail which can be mechanically
processed. Small and flimsy pieces
of mail which cause jams and dis-
ruptions in mail processing equip-
ment is prohibited from the mail. A
surcharge is levied on certain over-
size pieces of mail which must be
processed using more expensive man-
ual procedures.
Presently, all letter-mail that
is 1/4 inch or less in thickness
must be: At least 31/2 inches in
height and at least 5 inches long;
Rectangular in shape and; At least
.007 inches thick.
Keys and identification devices
are exempt from these requirements.
All other mail that does not meet
these minimum size standards will be
considered nonmailable and will be
returned to sender.
Also First Class Mail weighing 1
ounce or less and single piece Third
Class Mail weighing 2 ounces or less
is considered nonstandard and sub-
ject to a surcharge when: It ex-
ceeds 6 1/8 inches in height; It ex-
ceeds 11 1/2 inches in length; It is
more than 1/4 inch thick and; Its
length is less than 1.3 times the
eight or more than 2.5 times the
height.

The Tour Office has scheduled a
tour for Saturday August 9 which
will take you through Reykjavik to
Gullfoss, which is considered one of
the most beautiful waterfalls in
Europe. The tour will also include
visits through Thingvellir, Geysir,
and Hvergerdi. To sign up call the

Keflavilc birth
RM2 and Mrs. Michael Patrick
Creazzo are the parents of a son,
Anthony Joseph, born Wednesday July
YN1 Kathryn D. Campbell of Fleet
Air Keflavik was recently presented
the Navy Achievement Medal by Capt.
R.A. Berg, chief of staff Fleet Air
Keflavik for professional achieve-
ment. Her duties as administrative
assistant for administrative/deck/
supply ratings branch in the Naval
Military Personnel Command from
September 1975 to May 1980 were dis-
played with intense personal dedi-
cation.
She is a five year Navy careerist
and her hometown is Clarksville,
Tenn.
