TAC receives questionable travel claims____________________________________________________
TAC has recently experienced several incidents of individuals submit-
ting questionable travel claims involving actual expense allowances. The
most common discrepancy found involves members claiming the maximum allow-
able in the actual expense category.
Actual expense allowances are authorized where it is anticipated mem-
bers will incur actual and necessary expenses in amounts exceeding the
amount paid for standard per diem. High cost areas are designated by the
Per Diem Travel and Transportation Committee and there are currently app-
roximately 120 designated high cost areas in the United States. The maxi-
mum amounts payable for a designated high cost area vary from $56 to $75
(this includes room, baggage handling, etc.) per day. The traveler may
claim actual expenses up to the maximum amount allowable for that area.
It must be emphasized that the individual must provide an itemized list of
daily expenses. Estimating or approximating expenses is prohibited.
Inflated expenses fraudulently claimed on travel vouchers are punishable
under the UCMJ and could result in a heavy fine of $10,000 or imprisonment
of five years in jail or both.
Is your Dream Sheet current2_______________________________________________________________
Is your Assignment Preference Statement (Dream Sheet) current? Consec-
utive Overseas Tours (COT) are selected seven to nine months prior to DEROS
and stateside assignments for overseas returnees six months prior to DEROS.
AFMPC does consider your "Dream Sheet" so give yourself every opportunity
and insure your preferences are current.
Also, AFMPC has released a list of Special Duty Assignments for 702XOB's.
Eligible volunteers for these areas have nearly been exhausted and we are
soliciting applicants to fill these positions. Overseas returnees will be
given first consideration as they are in a mandatory move status. For moi^^^
information contact AFI Personnel, MSgt Garcia or SSgt Flanagan at exten-
sion 4507/4642.
SBP open enrollment has begun_____________________________________________________________
Open enrollment period begins for Survivor Benefit Plan. Public Law
97-35, enacted August 13 establishes an "open period" for eligible mem-
bers to elect or increase participation in the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP).
This open period begins October 1 and ends on September 30, 1982. An
eligible member is a member or former member of the uniformed services who
is entitled to retired or retainer pay on or before August 13. Any eligi-
ble member who is not a participant in the SBP may now elect to participate.
In addition, any member who is a participant but elected not to partici-
pate at the maximum level, may change from the current base amount to a
higher level. Members who maintain "children only" coverage may also
change their coverage to include their spouses. When a member makes an
election under this provision he will not be entitled to the coverage for
a two year period commencing on the effective date of that election.
