There is also a lounge for those who want to hang out and sip a fine glass of red. Vesturgata 3b Húrra The walls may be dark and adorned with gloomy paintings, and the lighting minimal, but when the bands step onto the stage the place really comes into its own. Armed with a great sound system, the place delivers a great experience for music fans throughout Reykjavík. Oh, and they serve Einstök Pale Ale and White Ale in beer mugs! Tryggvagata 22 6 Loftið Loftið offers some of the best cocktails to be had in the city. On a typical weekend you will find this place filled with older Icelandic yuppies or older yuppie foreigners swallowing old and expensive alcohol dressed like the prosper- ity period of 2006 never ended. This vibe is achieved with a super strict entry policy and a dress code that makes very few exceptions. If you have the money, this is the place to go! Austurstræti 9 8 Þingholt Bar Located in Center Hotel Þingholt, this bar is tucked away just outside of the mayhem that is Laugavegur on a weekend night. For a quieter evening, check out their daily happy hour between 17–19, lounge in their chic and modern environment with one of the many beers and cocktails on offer. Center Hotel, Þingholtstræti 5 9Mengi Mengi (“Set”) was born as a place to host intimate shows where the artist gets to perform in front of small crowds. Hosting anything from art performances, lectures and workshops to music gigs, Mengi snugly seats 50 people. Admission is generally 2,000 ISK, but guests are free to bring their own drinks. It’s also a cool hangout for artists and musicians. Make sure to get there early - they take reservations until 18:30 but after that it's a free-for-all! Óðinstorg, Þórsgata 1 Snaps5 Kopar This restaurant offers a terrific setting with truly tempting menu with a diverse and imaginative selection of land and sea-based ingredients. Expect to have to book well in advance, though, as the place is too packed for walk-ins to be reliably possible. Geirsgata 3 4 Hraðlestin The faster and more affordable cousin to one of the top restaurants in the country, Austurindíafélagið, flavour is never compro- mised by promptness að Hraðlestin. Their short selection of authentic Indian cuisine is cooked with the finest ingredients, the spices are masterfully blended and the experience is wholly satisfying. Hverfisgata 64a 3 Forréttabarinn Forréttabarinn literally means “the bar of starters.” It is situated close to the harbour in an abandoned warehouse of some sort. The decor is rugged, yet stylish: spacious with high ceilings and big windows. Similar to the tapas approach to dining, the restaurant serves small simple courses with few, but well chosen, ingredients. Nýlendugata 14 2 1 12 13 I 13 11
