New Netherlands officer assigned to Defense Force by J02 Kerry Honore Welcome aboard to Netherlands Navy Commander Teunls A. Kruis, the second NATO officer to be assigned to Island Commander Iceland. Commander Kruis, a native of Noordwykerhout, is a grad- uate of the Nautical Academy. He received his Naval Reserve Commission to the grade of Ensign in March 1962, along with his designation as a Navigational Flight Officer (NFO). o 4* o ■C a > > 0 Z » 3 Cmdr. Kruis awards include the Netherlands' Men's National Sporting Fitness medal, which he has obtained twice. This medal is equal to the United States Presidential Medal for fitness. He also received a Naval Medal for service and has 20 years active duty. Iceland is not an unfamiliar place for Cmdr. Kruis. For 12 years he has been flying in and out of Iceland on aircraft. Cmdr. Kruis or "Bram", his nickname, would like to thank Lt. Cmdr. John V. Alexander, Cmdr. Mark B. Baldy and his wife for the friendly welcome to Iceland. Cmdr. Kruis is married to the former Conny Goetjaer. They have two children, Ingrid, 22 and Eric, 20. VP-8 pilot honored during recent ceremony by Lt.(jg) Maynard, Patrol Squadron EIGHT Public Affairs Officer Ensign Gerald L. Nyberg II, USNR, of Patrol Squad- ron EIGHT was recently awarded the 1985 Daughters of the American Revolution Achievement Award by Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Wayne E. Foshay at a special VP-8 quarters. Each year this award is given to a Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard pilot who achieves the highest overall flight grades while assigned to the Naval Air Training Command during the competing year. Ens. Nyberg joined VP-8 on May 26 after completing his training as a Naval Aviator. He is now acting Maintenance Training Officer for VP-8 and is current- ly in the Patrol Plane Third Pilot syllabus.
