Films
There are eight cinemas in Reykjavik, showing a
total of about 20 films per day. There's always a
good choice of films; most are American, but
several European films are invariably playing as
well as an Icelandic film or two. Films are shown in
their original languages with Icelandic subtitles.
The local newspapers print a schedule of the
movie theaters selections every day.
Theatres and Oprea
National Theater, Hverfisgata, Reykjavik. New
playUppreisn a Isafirdi I (Revolt at Isafjordur) by
parliametarian Ragnar Arnalds. Tosca, opera by
Puccini, starring Kristjan Johannsson, directed by
Paul Ross, musical director Maurizio Barbacini. The
Icelandic Dance Company will be performing ballets
by HI if Svavarsdottir and Nanna Olafsdottlr. On the
small basement stage, Valborg and the Bench by
Finn Methling, and Woza Albert, a visiting
production in English/Zulu/Afrikaans from Cafe
Teatret in Copenhagen. A new small theatre: this
will feture exclusively new Icelandic works, the
first being I Smasja (Under the liicroscope) by
Thorunn Siguradardottir.
Icelandic Opera, Gamla Bio, Ingolfsstraeti,
Reykjavik: Verdi's II Trovatore revived from last
season. Weekend performances.
Nightspots

dancing to live music, Friday and Saturday nights to
3 a.m.
Broadway, Alfabakki2, Reykjavik. Live music,
discotheque, floorshows.
Glaesibaer, Alfheimar 74, Reykjavik. Live

a. m. Olver bar open 11:30 a. m. to 3 p. m. daily and
6p.m. to 3 a. m. Friday and Saturday.
Hollywood, Armuli 4, Reykjavik. Discotheque
and bar, open 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. weekdays and
Sundays, 10p.m. to 3 a. m. Friday and Saturday.
