Proper Air Force Uniform Wear When
Traveling: Air Force members often wear
inappropriate uniforms when traveling by
commercial means. AFR 35-10, paragraph
6-2A (2) clearly states members traveling by
commercial transportation may only wear
the service dress uniform or a short or long
sleeved shirt or blouse. If a member opts to
travel in “short sleeves,” a tie is required.
The light-weight blue jacket and the
pullover sweater are not authorized for wear
when traveling by commercial means. The
same requirement applies when traveling by
DoD aircraft or U.S. government contract
flights (rotator).
