Admission to “The Art of Flying” is free of
charge. The gates to the base will be open to
the public at 11 a.m. A fall carnival, featuring
a variety of food and entertainment booths
with games and prizes, will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The airshow will begin at 2 p.m. with a
parachute jump by three skydivers carrying
the flags of NATO, Iceland and the United
States. Icelandic aerobatics will be performed
by a Pitts Special, gliders, CAP-10 and model
aircraft.
The Thunderbirds, who are making their
first appearance in the sky over Iceland, will
display their art of flying at approximately
2:45 p.m. The group of six F-16 “Falcons” will
present maneuvers ranging from the graceful
diamond roll to the breathtaking cross over
break.
Following the Thunderbird’s performance,
a special ending to the show will feature candy
showering over the crowd from an HC-130.
The Thunderbirds squadron, assigned to
Tactical Air Command, will arrive on base
August 30 and 31. On Saturday, Sept. 1, the
Thunderbirds will hold a special reenlistment
ceremony for U.S. Air Force and U.S. NaM
personnel.

School begins Aug. 27
Registration scheduled alphabetically by sponsor
The A. T. Mahan Elementary and High Schools will be holding a
combined registration on Thursday and Friday at the high school.
The registration process will be done alphabetically according to the
sponsors last name. Sponsors whose last name begins with A-J will be
held Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.; sponsors whose last name
begins with K-R will be held 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday; and sponsor’s
names beginning with S-Z will be from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday.
There is a variety of paperwork and forms needed for all students
planning to register.
A. T. Mahan Elementary School requirements
Navy sponsored dependents need:
* A copy of the sponsor’s PCS orders to Iceland.
* A copy of the servicemember’s Page 2.
* Birth Certificate or Passport for first year students.
* Any previous school records.
* A copy of the student’s shot records.
Air Force sponsored dependents need:
* A copy of the sponsor’s PCS orders to Iceland.
* Birth Certificate or Passport for first year students.
* A copy of the dependent or sponsor’s travel orders.
* Any previous school records.
* A copy of the student’s shot records.

For students which attended A. T. Mahan schools last year, it is
important that their sponsors sign and return the form the school mailed
out. For any students who are transferring from the elementary school
to the high school, their records have been sent to the high school via
computer disk.
It is also important that returning students and their sponsors attend
registration to look over the enrollment Form DS 100 to ensure all the
information is still accurate.
Many teachers and administrators will be present during registratj
to assist both students and parents. The high school will ha'
guidance counselor present to assist any students who are not sure
credits are required.
Any parents interested in joining the Parent Teacher Organization
can also do that at registration.
