As one of six chaplains serving this base of more than 5,000 people,
I spend a lot of time counseling individuals, couples and families,
from command-related issues to those involving personal relation-
ships with one another.
Leo Buscaglia, author of Loving Each Other: The Challenge of
an Relationships, writes: “There is no being or becoming
'thout relationships. Our very survival seems to depend on our
’elationships.”
He also mentions in his book, a survey that was mailed at random
to 1,000 men and women who had indicated their interest in the dy-
namics of loving relationships. Two of the questions asked were —
“What three qualities do you believe to be the most conducive to the
continual development of love and growth in a relationship?” and,
“What three qualities do you believe are most destructive to a loving
relationship?”
The results were interesting. Sixty percent of the people responded
to the survey. Eighty-five percent of those who responded listed
communication, affection, and forgiveness as qualities that improve
relationships while an equal percentage (85%) said lack of communi-
cation was the most destructive element to a loving, growing relation-
ship, along with selfishness and dishonesty.

of many resources available to the public at the Chapel of Light. It
may provide the reader with some invaluable insights to deal with
difficulties we all have at times with loving each other.
