New maintenance contract increases efficiency
By J03 (SW) Andreas Walter
The Public Works Department (PWD) and the
Housing Department recently teamed up with
Keflavfk Contractors (KC) to bring about two
noteworthy changes affecting family housing.
Under a contract signed by CDR Dan L.
Grigsby, Public Works Officer, and officials of
KC, all maintenance that has in the past been
performed by PWD will now be handled exclu-
sively by the contractors, starting July 1.
“Over the past three years, the number of
housing units has risen from 914 to 1388, putting
a tremendous workload on the maintenance
personnel. With these new units and the con-
stant upkeep of the aging ones, we were hard
pressed to meet the demand,” Grigsby explained.
In this instance, the light at the end of the
tunnel involves response times to trouble
calls. Emergency calls now warrant a one
hour or less response time, urgent calls, four
hours or less and routine trouble calls are
expected to be rectified within three days.
The trouble call line will remain ext. 7600
and maintenance personnel will be on hand to
take calls after hours.
“This is a great stride forward for both us
and the housing office. Housing is the num-
ber one quality of life issue for service
members today and we aim to make living in
Keflavfk an enjoyable experiencing,” he
stated.
